‘Moncler was something special and it was a Paninaro jacket, a beautiful purple one that started it all. My grandad got it for me for my 18th birthday, it was brand new with the tags still attached.’
‘I had a generous student loan which I spent on buying archive pieces.’
‘Without grandma, granddad and mum, I wouldn't even be here. They've always been there for me. The special thing for me is dressing them up in the archive pieces. That's the exciting part.’
‘In the 1954 K2 expedition, Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli summited. But who got them there? You have multiple Sherpas and Hunza porters who are Pakistani. They carry those Moncler sleeping bags, jackets, and all the equipment in crates on that three-day, 72-hour trek from the closest airport to the Karakoram range. And then you had the Sherpa, Amir Mehdi, who was a part of that expedition, and he was forgotten about at one of the base camps. They left him there to die. He lost his hands, he lost his feet, and he swore never to touch his ice axe again.’
‘In the fashion industry, there's a reality that the majority of the design we see comes from Asia or Africa, and unfortunately they never get their credit. I do question myself, it's been on my mind lately, as a Moncler collector and Gucci collector. If I stepped inside the Gucci store in the 1930s, would they serve me?’
