REAL ROCK

Real Rock is a documentary that follows the story of stone mason John Wears who founded Friction Factory, a Peak District based company that produces climbing holds from real rock and epoxy resin. John and his business partner Charlie De Beaux started Friction Factory with the aim of making outdoor climbing more accessible to people inside gyms, encouraging them to experience the different textures that different rock types have to offer. We went climbing with the team both inside the Climbing Works where they set a few routes with the help of Climbing Works founder Sam Whittaker, and outside on Curbar Edge at sunset. We also spoke to BMC conservationist Jon Fullwood and got into the nitty gritty of why real rocks make all the difference when it comes to climbing…
